ABOUT SUPA

Single Use Plastic Alternatives (SUPA) was launched in 2017 after I had a beautiful encounter with a nesting Leatherback turtle on a remote beach in Maputaland, KZN, South Africa. She had just laid her eggs deep in the sand high up on a beach (one of the few remaining nesting sites in South Africa). Alarmingly, the beach was strewn with plastic (mainly single use). I was deeply moved as I watched her head back into an equally polluted ocean, and realised that I had to do something.

I launched SUPA in a bid to generate awareness on the scourge of ocean plastic, and to seek practical solutions and alternatives for the home and in the shops. It is a small step, but it a step - and it all counts. Essentially, it's about creating awareness and having conversations.

The SUPA range is expanding all the time, but for now includes wax wraps (to replace cling wrap and tinfoil), reusable, elasticated bowl covers, fresh produce mesh bags and a carry-all pouch with all your shopping bag requirements within.

All of my products are unique, hand crafted and with a distinctively African flavour using traditional Shweshwe fabric. All my sewn products are made by a group of beautiful women in the township of Masiphumelele in Noordhoek.
